DEATHWORLD 1-5
Deathworld, by Harry Harrison, was originally serialized in the January to March 1960 issues of Astounding Science Fiction, with interior artwork by Van Dogen. Harry Harrison, based on the popularity of this serial, would expand Deathworld into a full-length paperback novel for publication in September 1960. Two more serials (which would also be expanded into full-length novels) would follow: The Ethical Engineer in 1963 (expanded to Deathworld 2 in 1964); and The Horse Barbarians in 1968 (expanded to Deathworld 3 in 1968). In 1973, the short fiction story The Mothballed Spaceship, centering on the world of Pyrrus, was posthumously published in Astounding: John W. Campbell Memorial Anthology, which sparked a new interest in Harrison’s Deathworld series.
A series of books, titled Return to Deathworld, purportedly in collaboration with Harry Harrison, by Russian authors Ant Skalandis and Mikhail Akhmanov, were published in 1998, but have never been printed in English. The extent of Harrison’s (or his estate’s) involvement in these books has never been revealed, and many scholars have concluded that more than likely none exists.
