For years, the Frilandet colony on Karg had coexisted peacefully with the nonhuman natives. But
then the Kargan young, whom the humans kept as pets and trained as menial workers, began to die in droves. Baffled and frightened, the Kargan elders called for help.

Kelda Nygren, once of the Frilandet colony and now a member of First-In´s Circle Dawn, led the expedition to Karg. Her homecoming was not a happy one. Some unidentified agent of the humans was killing the Kargan young. Ancient tradition barred the Kargans from acting in their own defense. And the humans refused to consider giving up their colony.
